CREEKSIDE, Monterey County — October 2026. The intersection of Portola Drive and Creekside Court played a distinct role in efforts to keep shortcut traffic out of Toro Park and Serra Village. According to the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC), engineers installed a partial road closure at that location during September 2024, as the second phase of a traffic-safety pilot. It was not a permanent street vacation, and the original pilot should not be mistaken for a new road closure beginning in October 2026.
Why was Creekside Court selected?
After a first partial barrier at Torero Drive and Bravo Court on July 12, 2024, traffic engineers observed drivers leaving Highway 68 at the River Road interchange and using Portola Drive through the Serra Village area. That created additional congestion at the neighborhood’s access and school-related movements. The agency described the Creekside Court closure as a way to prevent westbound through traffic from entering the neighborhood from River Road.
What do agency records say about the dates?
TAMC’s detailed project page dates the second installation to September 5, 2024, while another agency announcement says the second barrier was installed on September 27, 2024. Those inconsistent official accounts may refer to installation stages or a corrected schedule; without a dated construction record, California58 cannot settle the precise date. Both sources agree that the Creekside Court work was part of the 2024 pilot.
What happened afterward?
The county and TAMC later developed another pilot for the Toro Park corridor. A 2025 Monterey County board record describes the first experiment as running from July 12, 2024, to July 11, 2025 and labels the following plan “Toro Park Pilot Project No. 2.” That is important because decisions about the newer pilot should not be inferred from older public notices about the first Creekside Court barrier. The original project records alone do not establish the exact configuration or hours in force at this intersection today.
Where can Creekside-area residents confirm the current setup?
Residents should ask Monterey County Public Works or TAMC for the most recent traffic-control order, current sign schedule and engineering evaluation. TAMC lists (831) 775-0903 for general agency contact; drivers should always follow signs actually posted at the intersection.
